Max Syron holds a BFA in sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design including an exchange at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. He will be starting in the Program in Art MFA at CalArts in fall 2016. He has participated in group shows in the US, UK, Netherlands, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Bulgaria, and Romania. In collaboration with Maria Ban Espersen, Max developed and taught a glass workshop focused on experimentation and exploration in the hot glass worshop. This has been taught in Scotland, The Nethelands, and Belgium.
Max has an interdisciplinary practice whose materials range from glass to video documentation, photo to written directions. His work aims to undermine compact ideals of truth and knowledge in order to open up a space where indeterminacy becomes an empathetic binder. It is an empathy stemming from both one’s inability to fully comprehend one’s self as well as the other.
